Some children fight bedtime because of the bedtime itself: the dark room, the new big bed, the worries that start once the light goes off. These themes are about exactly that, so the story your child hears at night is about the night.

Younger children get gentle fantasy themes, such as a firefly who is scared of the dark or a night light that tells stories. Older children get themes about worries that keep them awake and a busy mind that will not settle.
